<p>First Six Weeks      Chapter 3 – The Civil War and Reconstruction</p>
<p>                                           Chapter 4 – Settling the West</p>

                                           Daily notes, lectures, and discussions.<br />
                                           Exams on Chapters 3, 4, 5, and 6.<br />
                                           Select a book and begin to read for the American<br />
                                           Biography Unit.</p>
<p>Second Six Weeks  Chapter 7 – Becoming a World Power</p>
<p>                                            Chapter 8 – The Progressive Movement</p>
<p>                                            Chapter 9 – World War I and Its Aftermath<br />
                                            Daily notes, lectures, and discussions.<br />
                                            Exams on Chapters 7, 8, and 9.<br />
                                            Oral and written presentation on book<br />
                                            for the American Biography Unit.<br />
                                            Mini-research project on some aspect of World War I.</p>
<p>Third Six Weeks     Chapter 10 – The Jazz Age</p>
<p>                                            Chapter 11– The Great Depression Begins</p>
<p>                                            Chapter 12 – Roosevelt and the New Deal <br />
                                                                  (Semester Exam)</p>
<p>                                            Daily notes, lectures, and discussions<br />
                                            Exams on chapters 10, 11, and 12. Mini-research<br />
                                            project on causes of the Great Depression. (2 sources)<br />
                                            Movie project in Windows movie maker on above.</p>
<p>Fourth Six Weeks   Chapter 13– A World in Flames</p>
<p>                                            Chapter 14- America and World War II</p>
<p>                                            Chapter 15 – The Cold War Begins</p>
<p>                                            Chapter 16 – Post War America</p>
<p>                                            Daily notes, lectures, and discussions<br />
                                            Exams on chapters 13, 14, 15, and 16<br />
                                            Read and report on a piece of teacher-<br />
                                            approved historical fiction from the 20<sup>th</sup> century.<br />
                                            Short paper with references on why<br />
                                            World War II occurred.</p>
<p>Fifth Six Weeks        Chapter 17–The New Frontier and the Great Society</p>
<p>                                            Chapter 18-The Civil rights Movenment</p>
<p>                                            Chapter 19 – The Vietnam War</p>
<p>                                            Chapter 20 – The Politics of Protest</p>
<p>                                            Daily notes, lectures, and discussions<br />
                                            Exams on chapters 17, 18, 19, and 20<br />
                                            Collect 5 political cartoons from the period <br />
                                            between 1950 and 1973.Use electronic research<br />
                                            and consult several different databases.<br />
                                            Be prepared to explain the point of each cartoon</p>

<p>Sixth Six Weeks       Chapter 21 – Politics and Economics</p>
<p>                                            Chapter 22 – Resurgence of Conservitism</p>
<p>                                            Chapter 23 – A Time of Change</p>
<p>                                            Chapter 24- A New Century Begins</p>
<p>                                            Daily notes, lectures, and discussion.<br />
                                            Exams on chapters 21, 22, 23, and 24<br />
                                            Write a personal narrative about an historical <br />
                                            this year.  Determine how it will affect the future<br />
                                            for Americans.Write a short paper on an<br />
                                            American political figure, past or present,<br />
                                            that you most admire.</p>
